We demonstrate a prototype system for obtaining function-level performance traces from applications. The main feature of our approach is its ability to instrument and analyze latency-sensitive GUI and soft real-time applications. The enabling technology here is self-propelled instrumentation: we make the application instrument and trace itself as it executes. This mechanism has a substantially lower code insertion latency than the external tool-based approach.
